Greetings!

This has been a very busy week at the camp.  We had volunteers on site from Dover, New Hampshire;  Goshen BC, Goshen, GA; Bowmar BC, Goshen, GA; and Gesher Shalom Messianic Congregation, Orlando FL.  Folks are talking about the heat in August as a deterrent to coming down.  I want to encourage you to think outside the box.  Perhaps by adusting the work day .. it gets light at 5:30 and dark at 8:00.  The hottest part of the day is 11:00 to 3:30.  See where I am going with this?  Please pray about this.  thanks

The matrixed volunteers (those staying at other camps but working from ours) have been a huge blessing.  There are some challenges developing a process to ensure the work is accomplished, tools are returned, etc, but it has allowed us to develop new relationships.  Many of the matrixed groups have asked about how they can help us and come to our camp on their next trip.  I speak briefly to each group when they arrive which gives me an opportunity to share the spiritual context with them.  Last week, we had a group help us from Chicago.  When I asked if they were from a Church in Chicago, several spoke up to say that they were from a Jewish synagogue.  I told them about our experience in Ocean Springs.  I had worked with a Rabbi in Cleveland , Ohio who collected a semi load of food and supplies --- which was sent to a Lutheran church --- to be distributed by a Southern Baptist --- who sent most of the supplies to a Vietnamese Buddhist Temple in Biloxi for distribution.  The point here is NOT ecumenicalism -- there are actually two points, first, it is that our purpose was and is to "help the man in the ditch" ( a reference to the parable of the good Samaritan).  God provides the resources needed  to give aid.  Second, He put the Church right in the middle of it.

God continues to keep us in the middle of it.  We have great favor with the City of Waveland.  In that context, I recall one night early last October while Martie and I were in Ocean Springs, we were talking about where we thought the Lord was leading us in ministry.  We both said that the Lord was leading us to Waveland.  A week later, First Baptist Church of Montgomery asked us to consider going to a church in Bay St. Louis, which is right next to Waveland.  As most of you know we spent over 6 months at Shoreline Park Baptist Church.  I was talking with a good friend this past week about his heart for ministry on the Gulf.  I told him that I believe God shows us a pattern in the Bible -- He calls -- He prepares -- He sends.  Joseph, Moses, David, Paul, Peter are examples,  to name a few.  I went on to tell him that the preparation period would be personally challenging because God wants us thoroughly equipped to do His work.  That can and often does mean going through the furnace for refinement.  But it also means gaining favor and developing relationships.  We believe God has called Martie and me to Waveland for His purpose.  He always intended for us to be here, it is not by chance that things just worked out that way.  As part of that call He has asked us to put the world behind us.  We have  done that, but friends it has not always been an easy journey.  We are so thankful for your  prayers and encouragement over the past months.  We are certain that it has been the glue for our ministry.  As it says in Philippians Chapter 1 - we are "thankful for your partnership in the Gospel".

Next Tuesday, we will begin hosting two AmeriCorps volunteers who will work with us five days a week from 8:00 to 4:00.  They will work out of our camp office to conduct needs assessments  for local residents.  In addition, starting July 10th, we will receive 20 AmeriCorps volunteers every Monday and Tuesday to assist us with Pod building and reconstruction.

We continued to build and deliver Pods this week. Martie and I are leading the pod deliveries.  The goal is to meet and connect with the residents at their home, to pray with them and to tell them more about Pathfinder.

Our Thursday night bible study is going well.  We had 9 attend this week.

A local artist made some signs for us to put at the entrances to make it easier for folks to find the camp.  Once I put them up I will put them on the web site for you to see.  The Lord has provided what we need when we need it.  Our logo and web page banner was designed by Paige Burton, Montgomery, AL.  She also designed our business cards.  Barb Plattner made the signs for the camp … she has been making signs since she volunteered with us in Ocean Springs last fall.  There have been so many who are willing to exercise their gifts for the ministry to the people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Please prayerfully consider what the Lord might have you do to help us minister on the Gulf.
