(E-mail from Martie to the families of the team that left for
Mississippi on Friday morning, 2 Sept 2005) Dear Team Family, I will be calling and emailing as I have word on the team. I hope your spouse/loved one gave you the contact information last night when they returned home from the meeting at Gateway. My home phone and cell number are at the bottom of the email. Please feel free to call me any time of the day or night just to talk or if you have information to be passed on to the other team members families or to check for new information. While the team is serving the victims of Hurricane Katrina, my desire is to serve you, the families of the team. Please reply back to my email if you receive this and let me know if you would like to remain on my email update list. I will telephone, too, with updates. After my husband and son-in-law left this morning, I tried to go back to sleep and couldn’t so decided that I needed to talk to God for awhile. :o) I’ve been reading in 1 Chronicles lately and this is what I read this morning in 1 Chron 28:20 “Then David said to his son, Solomon, ‘Be strong and courageous and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God my God is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.’” What that said to me is the same thing that God spoke to my husband, Charley, in the hospital almost 3 years ago in Acts 13:36: “For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep…” Nothing can remove you from this earth until the Lord God is finished with you. So what is there to fear? Nothing because the Lord is with you; this team is on His side and guess Who has won the battle already?!!!! Yeah!!!! We are all concerned about the conditions and dangers of the area where our loved ones are going. The news reports are rife with reports of chaos, violence, and dangers in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The team was briefed on what could be expected. What we each need to remember is Who is in control; that the Lord sees what is before us and behind us, what is to the right and to the left; nothing takes Him by surprise. So I encourage each of you to “be strong and courageous … do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God my God is with you….” I received a call from my husband just a few minutes ago to tell me that their destination has changed to Ocean Springs, MS.
Be blessed, Martie
