2nd Waveland Memorial of Katrina |

The following are the words I spoke to the people assembled for the Katrina Memorial on August 29th. I was one of several asked to read scripture and speak a word of encouragement to the people. *************************************************************************** Good Morning! My name is Charley. My wife, Martie, and I are with Pathfinder Mission. This morning I have been given a few minutes to share some scripture and give you a word of encouragement. We came to Mississippi from Montgomery, Alabama on Sep 2, 2005 initially to serve as volunteers in Ocean Springs, 6 weeks later after hearing of the need for help in Waveland, we relocated here. In April 2006 we sold our home in Montgomery and have become permanent residents of Waveland, Mississippi. For the past two years, Martie and I have been blessed to serve along side of hundreds of volunteers from all over the United States who, like us, have come to Mississippi to help the wonderful people who live here. In Gospel of John chapter 15 verse 12 and 13 Jesus said 2 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Thousands of volunteers have set their lives aside for a season to respond to the need of the people here on the Gulf Coast. But with them they have brought not only help but hope and strength. Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. For the people of Waveland Hancock County I believe the volunteers are the third strand If I can I want to share a couple excerpts from e-mails that I have received within the past two weeks both from two churches in California From a pastor at a church in the high desert, I am excited to be seeing you in October. This will be the biggest trip for us yet . we have not lost any steam. This church has been coming to the Gulf since October 2005. From another Church in Southern California They said that they hope to expand their teams coming to Waveland The e-mail goes on to say . We have developed many partnerships on the Gulf Coast and are committed to being there for and with them. We know that the recovery for the Gulf Coast is a long one. This is totally in Gods hands. We are trusting the Lord to lead us as we commit to be where He directs and right now that is still in the Katrina affected communities. We pray for you . Daily With more time I could tell you about folks from Indiana, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi and other states who share a similar commitment. There are a number of ministries in this area, some much larger than ours, They have brought thousands of volunteers to this area and have made long term commitments to continue to support the recovery here in Waveland. I dont represent them, but having watched them serve .. I can say be encouraged you are not forgotten and you are not alone . Someone once said The task ahead of you is never as great as the power behind you. Ephesians 6:10 says be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power .. and I say Amen thankyou
