Our mission in Florida has come to a close as of the end of June. We built and delivered a total of 51 storage containers. The majority being in three Pine Island communities, Matlacha (Mat-la-shay), St. James City, and Bokeelia (Boo-keel-ia). We had worked with the Greater Pine Island Alliance (GPIA) to identify families that would receive the storage containers.
The American Legion on Pine Island provided volunteers to assemble two containers a week on the island. The GPIA will continue to build storage containers
We have been working with a number of other disaster relief non-profits as a source for volunteer workers and have also had several volunteers who served with us in Haiti, Texas, and Mississippi. All Hearts and Hands, Adventures in Missions, Inspiritus, and the Florida Conference for the UMC. To date we have reported 4,224 volunteer hours in support of the shed project.
Although we delivered most of the containers assembled, space restrictions at some locations some locations required us to assemble the containers on-site.
The Containers were loaded 2 at a time on a utility trailer and off-loaded using a cart and 4 volunteers
