So, what does it mean to visit someone in their affliction? It can be as simple as a phone call, a personal visit, a note or maybe a napkin holder and a couple of scones with a card. Reminding the person that they are loved, not forgotten, and prayed for. That God is faithful. Several months ago, I started baking – making scones to serve after our bible study in our home. They were very popular and the folks attending the study always asked if there were scones after the study. Their popularity spread to other friends in other states. I soon was given the moniker of “The Scone Man”.
(Trees Walking) That is when Martie and I started paying attention. We had been wondering what was going to be next in our journey with the Lord. Could something as simple as scones be part of it?
Next, I made some napkin holders for Martie and for a few friends. Then Martie suggested that I make them for our children and grandchildren for Christmas. That’s 11 families total.
One Sunday while listening to a sermon at church, the Lord brought to mind the names of 6 recent widows. Women, that we knew personally, who had lost their husbands in the past 18 months. Women whose visibility fades the more that time passes from the passing of their husbands.
I told Martie that I felt that we should send those women a napkin holder, some scones and a note of encouragement.
In the note we told them to remember that they are loved and had not been forgotten. That each time they saw the napkin holder our hope would be that they might be reminded of God’s faithfulness. And so we did.
So what is the next step? We want to help you reach out to widows that you know.
People that you would like to see receive a word of encouragement through something as simple as a napkin holder and scones.
Our preference is that you receive the James 1:27 kit and deliver it yourself. In which case we will send it to you. Or we can ship it directly to the person on your behalf.
In either case, the card we include will indicate that the gift is from you.
We will also send a napkin holder with scones to you so you know what they will receive.
Ultimately, our hope is that you would stay connected to the people that the Lord has laid on your heart.
